Alpine Theater

Evergreen, Colorado

Design | Build: 2000

Across the valley from Mt. Evans and perched at the end of a steep mountain ridge sits a five acre estate nestled in a ponderosa pine forest. The master plan includes an organically shaped swimming pool, patios and supporting gardens.

The design set out to balance formal aspects of the architecture with a free form body of water and stone setting, inspired by lakes perched at high altitudes in the Rocky Mountains,

The scale of the pool was driven by the client's wish to have an Olympic length lap lane for his daughter's swimming training. Along with a sixteen foot deep diving hole, the pool also features a disappearing edge that reflects the Continental Divide from across the valley. A fifteen foot tall retaining wall of boulders was constructed below the edge of the pool for support along the steep mountain slope.
